Two weeks ago I wrote about my excitement in attending the Startup Princess Academy at the Disneyland Hotel. I am finally getting around to writing about it because I walked away with so much information and ideas to improve Swanky Paper and to get a jump start on my new project. It has been just over a week and I have barely tackled my list....yet it is all I have been doing. Yes - my list is that long!

The Startup Princess Academy helped me gain focus on what I should be doing rather than what I have been doing. I learned the benefits of choosing the right name for a business, about marketing to the "digital woman," ways to maximize press, the benefits of video marketing, and that was just the first hour! The underlying theme throughout the event was "Make a Wish, Make it Happen" It is not enough to want something, you have to work at it...so make it happen!

I met some phenomenal women with amazing talents. What a delight it was for me to meet them, learn from them, and bounce ideas off of them. That's what it was all about.

My thanks goes to Kelly Anderson for founding Startup Princess, and giving women entrepreneurs a resource with other like-minded women.

Gladiators!? Really?

Over the weekend I saw several women still wearing the gladiators. One in particluar was wearing a pair that looked kind of like these:

I seriously thought this fad would have died out by now. I enjoy the latest fashion trend like most people, but this was one trend that I gladly passed on.

Pay it Forward

Remember this post?

I got this in the mail last week and love it. I am already putting it to good use! Thanks Becky! I love the lavender and the cute 1950's look to it.

I am almost done with my first handmade gift. Here's a sneak peek Nicki...

Remember THIS post? and this intriguing woman?

well the Swanky Paper site update site is just around the corner and...

I will be HERE this weekend to learn from the experts to help me move forward with that new project I mentioned. I can't wait!

I Dreamed a Dream

My husband showed me this last night and it was so good it gave me goosebumps. I wanted to hear it again tonight and now share it with you. This song is my absolute favorite from one of my favorite Broadway Shows, Les Miserables.
Without a doubt one of the greatest performances I've heard.

Start-Up Princess

Have you been over to the Startup Princess site yet? I started reading the blog a few months ago and was hooked. As a woman entrepreneur this site is specifically for me.

Recently they launched an Orange County chapter. Unfortunately I missed the first few meetings, however Tuesday night I was able to attend their most recent event. It was such a valuable evening and I had such a great time learning from all the other women that I think we all lost track of time. Two hours had passed before I knew it!

I met some phenomenal women who inspired me. Simply by attending this event sold me on attending the Startup Princess Academy in a few weeks. It was not exactly in the budget to attend, however after walking away from Tuesday's event with so much information, I was inspired to move forward with my business. I figured that if this little event not only inspired me, but armed me with new information just imagine what I can learn from the Startup Princess Academy.

If you are marketing to women online or even offline you may want to check it out. The line up of speakers, otherwise known as Fairy Godmothers, is incredible and I can't wait to meet them.

So while this may not have been in the budget, I simply could not afford to miss it!

The Rug

I spent quite a bit of time online & in and out of several stores in hopes of finding the right rug for our living room. This room used to have carpet. Since we decided to re-do the wood floors we thought that we might as well rip up the carpet and re-finish the floors in there too.

I was more than impressed when I saw how amazing my husband had stained the floors. He used a walnut stain and added some black stain to it in order to get the right look. Remember that little trip I took the boys on? My husband could have never done the floors unless we were out of the house.

The new rug had to have certain & specific criteria:

1. It had to be light in color. With new dark floors and a black leather couch, a dark rug would make the room gloomy.

2. It could not be white/off white/cream. I have two little boys, remember?

3. It had to go with my one red wall and a red ottoman.

4. And of course I had to like it. I wasn't about to spend money on something that I'd get sick of.

Of all places, IKEA had the perfect rug for our living room.

I love the mix of colors

Here is a view taken from the red wall ... sorry about aiming the camera directly in the light.

Trip vs. Vacation

I arrived home haggard after a few days of visiting my sisters. I took the two boys with me. It was a ton of fun, but still very exhausting.

The following conversation took place recently in our little cottage.

Him: How was your vacation?

Me: You mean the trip?

Him: Yeah, same thing.

Me: No, its not. A TRIP is something you go on because of work, or with family. A VACATION is something you go on WITHOUT kids!

Semi-Homemade Doughnuts

Such a fun treat the boys had this morning - ok let's be honest, it was a treat for me too!

I woke up Sunday morning to find my hubby creatively making doughnuts using Pillsbury Grands. {After the fact I found a recipe on the Pillsbury website for Baked Sugar Doughnuts}

He cut out holes and cooked both the holes & doughnuts in a pot of oil on the stove.

Sprinkled with powdered sugar, they were a HUGE hit. Just ask this little guy!

I think I love these Flor tiles. They would be much more fun to have than a generic rug - don't you think?

Now if only I can make a decision....
