The Art of a Thank You - is it really an art form?

Everyone wants to be appreciated and more so after giving a gift. In this day and tech savvy age, thank you notes are just a click away – right? Who has ever sent a thank you via email? I can not recall when I have ever done that, except maybe the time someone give me a thank you gift. I think it was Miss Manners who once said that it really is OK to not send a thank you note after someone sends you a thank you gift. Then it just becomes overkill. But I still wanted to let them know it was appreciated.

My grandmother taught me about sending thank you notes back when I was a little girl. I think she even bought our family a Miss Manners book back then too. She always gives great gifts and is so thoughtful with each one. She can always find the perfect gift. In turn I love to send her little notes to let her know how much I adore each gift and the thoughtfulness that went into the gift.

I know that I am guilty of forgetting to send a thank you note here and there…but a late thank you is better than no thank you.
The art of a Thank You is really quite simple. The format that I use has gotten me through life so far and so without further ado here is a tried and true format for sending the perfect thank you:

1. Address the person. “Dear Grandma,” Sounds simple enough right? Good. We are on the same page.

2. Thank the person and acknowledge the gift. “Thank you for the lovely necklace.” But what if the gift is not something that you care for? That should not matter! Thank the person and acknowledge the gift. You don’t have to lie and say that you love it. There are some great alternatives, and here is one; “Thank you for the beaded necklace. The beads are exquisite and the bold colors brighten my day. I will think of you whenever I wear it.”

3. It is always nice to mention how nice it was to see them or that you look forward to seeing them in the future. “It was nice to see you at my party.” Or “I hear you are doing quite well. I hope to visit soon.”

4. Thank the person again and close the note. “Thanks again for the fantastic necklace. Love, Your Grand-Daughter” And that's it!

It is a simple and easy formula to write your thank you notes. It's really not an art form and it does not have to be long – in fact a thank you letter is often a bad idea. One will lose sight of the reason for the note in the first place. Keep your thank you notes short, simple and to the point.

Me & this here Blog

I am a woman, a wife, a mom, and a lover of pretty things. Those pretty things includes paper! Oh! how I love stationery. So much so that I wanted to create my own line of paper.

Swanky Paper now has a blog. It is my media outlet for not only customers & potential customers, but also for people who want to know a little more about me and what I am all about.

You'll get to see the latest products that Swanky Paper is offering, news and events from the Swanky Studio, and even a little peek into my world. The things I do personally, my favorite things, or those things that I may be currently obsessing over ... you know, like that Handbag over at Anthropologie or the bracelet I saw while window shopping at Nordstroms! I'll probably also post on the things that inspire me, after all without inspiration where would we be?!

My husband (who happens to be really cute!) is the love of my life and has been super supportive as I worked to get Swanky Paper off the computer, onto the World Wide Web, and into your little hands! He continues to offer support and encouragement each day.

My two boys (Thing 1 & Thing 2) are quite possibly the cutest things to enter my world. No wonder, as I just mentioned, their daddy is cute! Thing 1 has quite the sense of humor, even at his little age. And then there is Thing 2, he is my little cuddle bug. I can't get enough of his daily loves.

So here we are, the Swanky Paper blog is now open to all sorts of possibilites.

So sit back. relax. and visit often.

Oh! and don't forget to ENJOY!

the start of something new

swanky paper began as simple as an idea one day back in 2005. i made my son's birth announcement and with a desire to have matching thank you cards for all baby gifts i tried to creat my own personalized ones...that did not go over so well. i was just a rookie back then! so i went to target to get some. they always have cute and inexpensive ones - but everyone else has the same ones. so began the process of developing my own note card line. i had great support from friends who stood as my sounding board with ideas and designs. my hubby encouraged me all along the way knowing that whatever i set my mind to do i would go all the way. fast forward to 2007 - once i felt comfortable with the results of the note cards i got started in the home party and boutique platform. my cards were always well recieved. i can not begin to say how good that made me feel. it is one thing for me to like my own cards or for family and friends to compliment the designs, but after my first home party and boutique i was overwhelmed with confidence that maybe this really is the start of something that others can really appreciate too.
so here it is ... the blog to compliment my website. come back from time to time to see the latest in designs and be the first to see product lines before they launch on the website. stay tuned for some fellow blogger participation as well... oh the fun we'll have with swanky paper.
